Myles Munroe Quotes and Explanation

“What Is Prayer? Prayer is man giving God the legal right and permission to interfere in earth’s affairs.”

Although man has the legitimacy to rule the world independently of God, he can only do it effectively with the help of God. God has limited his operation on earth to the level a man wills. God has given men the power to choose how much of God they want in their affairs. But he has gifted us with prayer as a system to ask Him for help. When we pray, we are giving God the legitimacy to operate in our lives. We are telling him to come through in our situation. Our prayers are asking God to play an active role in the areas we lack knowledge and understanding. Prayer is the only way we welcome the Kingdom of God to operate on earth.

“Few people who marry plan for their marriages to fail, but neither do they specifically plan for success.”

In this quote, Myles Munroe weeds out the idea of marriage happening spontaneously and advocates for intentionality. No one plans to fail in marriage. In the same way that people do not plan for failure is the same they do not plan for success. If we do not plan to succeed in marriage, we will fail at it. We forget marriage is an institution with its unique rules of engagement like any other institution. Intentionality in marriage must be at the same degree as with running a company. The man has the responsibility to learn his responsibility as a man, father, and husband, and the woman must know her duties for the marriage. Men and women who plan for the success of their marriage will not fail.

“All the money in the world can make you rich, and all the power in the world can make you strong, but these things can never make you a leader”

Money and power surround leadership but they are not the only things that make a leader. Using the Ice Berg model, money and power are at the tip. Many leadership factors are submerged. It is possible to equal leadership to power and money because they are what we see and admire. Money and power are the results of leadership. Our pursuit of leadership should not be motivated by them. Money and power comes from people. When we serve people’s needs, money, and power will be automatic. People with money and power are not necessarily leaders. Leadership is tied to the character of a person. A person with money and power will struggle to get the respect of a leader to the same degree as a person with no power and money.

“Leaders lead out of their hearts.”

Leaders, good or bad, give what is in their hearts. When Hitler massacred 6 million Jews, he revealed what was in his heart. When Jesus was crucified for the sins of men, he revealed his heart to men. The most powerful form of leadership is done from the heart. A leader leading out of the heart has conviction, passion, and spiritual connection. Conviction firms his belief as a leader called for a specific purpose. Passion drives him to endure difficult circumstances, the courage to face uncertainty, and boldness to go against the tide. Spiritual connection gives him access to godly wisdom if the leader is good and demonic wisdom if the leader is evil. His creativity, ability to lead and remain in leadership stems from his heart

True leaders serve their gifts to humanity

The difference between a genuine and false leader is their gift to humanity. Every leader is born with a gift to solve a specific problem humans face. The first responsibility of the leader is to realize his gift and second, refine the gift by serving it to humanity. A true leader spends his lifetime sharing his gift with people. The gift could be management, teaching, serving, or inspiring. Whatever he has, he must share it with others. He is a true leader because his satisfaction comes from giving what he has. A true leader has a servant mentality. He understands his position is a God-given privilege designed to inspire others and to fill a gap in the affairs of men.

“God’s purpose is more important than our plans”

God wants to participate with us in actualizing his purpose on earth. Every person who ever lives contributes to God’s purpose in some way. God gives us bits of our purpose in every meeting. The plans we make must be in line with the purpose God has designed for us. We must hold on to our plans lightly because God knows the best way to achieve the purpose he has for our lives. Many times our plans are getting a job, wife, and children, building a house, and creating generational wealth. God has a different way of making these plans a reality. He focuses on shaping our character more than material things. He will make us go through situations that shape our character and reward us with the things we want when we endure.

The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life without a purpose

The only antidote to the pains of death is a life lived with purpose. It is unwise to fear death because every man is appointed die. The only time we should fear death is if it comes when we are living aimlessly. Knowing the reason you came to this world is powerful than most of us think. Our purpose gives us a reason to wake up every morning, look out for our families, run our business, and serve the community. Knowing the reason God sent us to this world gives us the strength to endure the most difficult circumstances this life offers. Many people are prisoners of stress, anxiety, depression, and mental health issues because they live a life without purpose. A man’s greatest pursuit is the meaning of his life, which he can only find when he discovers his purpose.
